Lavender Bay is a harbourside suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney. The suburb was originally named Gooweebahree – the Aboriginal name for fresh water. The first European settled adopted the name until it was changed to Lavender Bay after George Lavender – a convict who lived in the area on 14 acres of land in the 1820’s.
